Eating and drinking together is an opportunity to socialise, play, and connect. The feeling of movement and energy is palpable during a good meal, and so the space that accommodates these experiences should promote that; counterintuitively, western dining conventions begin with a fixed table that inhibits movement, surrounded by chairs that situate diners in subtle spatial hierarchy.
The Dining Stand offers an alternative: a means of directly suspending meal, drink, and cutlery without prescribing body position or environmental position, and offers adjustability that adapts to needs, desires and moods.
The resulting object is not just a study of material or form, but a speculative proposition that interrogates the paradigm of seated social dining.
