Universal Connectors

When we developed the idea for our modular furniture system, we collected the ideas of wall-shelving systems, modular storage units, and DIY milk crate or pallet furniture.

BCDO Connector in a row

We reached a furniture system which could use any material – found, bought, borrowed, broken – to create any furniture without needing expensive tools or damaging the base material. This approach returns the power of designing a furniture object to the user, who can adapt their own context and materials to the outcome of the furniture.

Our solution uses inexpensive hose-clamps and four identical quadrants to secure up to four panels ranging from 16mm to 36mm thickness.

Our intention is to fortify the culture of reusing and recycling hard rubbish objects, while reclaiming the power of convenience monopolised by fast furniture and offering an adaptability that mass-production withholds.

To this effect, this downloadable, ready-to-3D-print STL file is compatible with hose-clamps available at most major hardware stores. A short instructional pamphlet and some suggested configurations are included in the download.
